Coming of Age is a collection of paintings that become by approaching the canvas with no agenda. The only preconceived conditions are the size and state of the canvas or paper and the choice of colour and paint. This is the framework through which I let the painting come forth.

Graphite pencil is used to inscribe thoughts, emotions and longings directly onto the painting. I like to paint late at night, usually over many hours throughout the quiet, velvety hours.

This way of painting is embodied expression of freedom. Liberated from expectations. Free from rules. Emancipated from trying, from striving. No containment of self , no shaving off edges or reducing volume. Painting as a practice of allowing true nature and all the joy and sorrow, faith and fear, trust, arrival, longing and infinitely more that is the truth of a life, to be seen,

Sitting with women my age and listening to us laugh and cry and confide with each other, hold and squeeze and inspire each other, I notice that we have never been so completely and utterly ourselves and never have we been more beautiful. Holy. We revere ourselves and one another. We exalt and ground and see each other, falling head over heals in love with our own selves as we are mirrored and embraced.
